Ordinary People Who Changed The World

February 4, 2015

These individuals didn’t back off the challenges of time and criticism of others.   The corporate world didn’t believe them at first but they proved them wrong.  Most of them started their company at the garage while others didn’t even have much investment to start a business, but only ideas that changed the way we live today.

Steve Jobs

“Stay hungry, stay foolish”

If you think of iphone, you will think of him.  He was the co-founder of Apple Inc.   The first Apple Computer was formed at the garage of his parents’ house together with his co-founders,   Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne.  They received funding from a then-semi-retired Intel product marketing manager and engineer Mike Markkula.

From personal computer (PC), Apple developed iMac, IPod and iPhone.  It can’t be denied that Apple products are widely used by people worldwide.

Jobs also ventured into films in partnership with Disney. He bought The Graphics Group (later renamed Pixar.  Box office films include Toy Story (1995), Monster Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (2003) and etc.

Bill Gates

A Harvard drop out and a trouble maker during his teenage days. But now he is the richest man in the planet who co-founded Microsoft, world’s largest personal computer software company.  Their products Microsoft Windows are mostly used in our personal computers, laptops and smart phones today.  He and his wife founded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that planned to donate 95 percent of their wealth to a charity.

Mark Zuckerberg

Maybe you are one of the billions that is enjoying his invention now. He is best known as the   co-founder of the social networking website Facebook, which is estimated to have 1.23 billion active users a month.  He and his co-founders launched Facebook from his Harvard’s dormitory room.    He has envisioned that one day everyone will have free access to the internet.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin

The co- founders of Google who incorporated it in 1998 at a friend’s garage in Menlo Park, California.  Look how easy it is for us now to search what we want to know on the internet.  They made partnership with NASA and developed google earth that enables us to travel the world by just using our computer.  They also acquired Youtube, the famous free video streaming site.

In 2004, Google formed a non-profit philanthropic wing, Google.org, giving it a starting fund of $1 billion. The express mission of the organization is to help with the issues of climate change, global public health, and global poverty.

Elon Musk

It’s so funny because I can’t even recognize his name before, however, his inventions made an impact to our lives.  I must say that among the businessmen mentioned in this article, he is mostly admired.  Despite his success, he stayed humble.  People mocked at him and didn’t believe his ideas at first but because of his tenacity, he succeeded and has continued to create new things that would be helpful for human race.

He is a South African-born, Canadian American business magnate, inventor, and investor. He is the co-founder of Paypal and the CEO and CTO of SpaceX,  the first private company that sent rocket to International Space Station (ISS), CEO and chief product architect of Tesla Motors, that innovates the use of electricity instead of fossil fuel. Also he is the chairman of Solar City. He has also envisioned a conceptual high-speed transportation system known as the Hyperloop.

It is believed that he is the inspiration of the Iron Man character, Tony Stark.
